Danae D. Davis, chief executive officer for Pearls For Teen Girls, Inc. has been selected as one of 90 finalists for Major League Baseball and People Magazine’s 2010 “All-Stars Among Us” national campaign.
Davis’ organization, Pearls For Teen Girls is an innovative leadership development initiative serving at-risk middle and high school girls in Milwaukee.
The primary goal of Pearls For Teen Girls is to help at-risk girls, particularly those facing the challenges of poverty, to achieve in school, take responsibility for their behavior, avoid teen pregnancy, violence and other negative traps, and ultimately, use their personal power to reach their goals and dreams.
Davis’ work was recognized my the Community Journal in 2008 when the newspaper made her one of its “Our Women, Our Treasures, Our Jewels honorees.
Making its debut in 2009, “All-Stars Among Us” recognizes individuals who are serving their communities in extraordinary ways.
Out of the 90 finalists (three per MLB club), a total of 30 “All-Stars,” one representing each MLB club, will attend and be honored at the 2010 All-Star Week in Anaheim, Calif.
They will also be recognized during the pre-game ceremony of the All-Star Game on July 13.
Each finalists has a story of how they contribute their time and resources in a way that is meaningful in strengthening their communities and enriching lives of family members and neighbors.
“The inaugural ‘All-Stars Among Us’ program last year made a significant impact on everyone involved and helped increase awareness of the meaningful efforts of 30 great humanitarians,” said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig.
“We’re proud to partner with People Magazine again to acknowledge another team of inspirational heroes who deserve recognition for their important work.”
All finalists were selected from thousands of online submissions by fans from the U.S. and Canada who nominated their local “All-Stars.”
