Pulse of the Community

Special Question of the Week: "In what way does money affect relationships?"

Photos and question by Harry Kemp

Dionne Webb: "Money affects a relationship in many ways because money is the key to the world. It all depends on the people in the relationship because everyone doesn’t care about money. They would rather have the companionship."

Elder William Pugh: "Money effects relationships in many ways, such as personally, it can cause stress, anger, short patience and just plan old frustration."

Pastor John Johnson: "The Bible says that money is the answer for all things. When there is little or no money, there is a problem. Husbands and wives will get into it. Sometimes they even breakup. The tension is too great. It effects our community."

Constance Clark: "Money is the root of all evil. It can make or break a relationship. A good relationship will not let that happen."

Teaching children the dangers of lead poisoning

A Head Start teacher at the SDC’s Head Start program reads the story "Lead, a Poison in Disguise" Tuesday to preschool children as part of the observance of National Lead Awareness Week. The reading by the teacher was part of an hour-long "Hour of Unleaded Power" at Head Start sites all across Milwaukee County. The goal is to offer the children ways they can keep themselves safe from lead poisoning. Last year, more than 2,000 children in the state tested positive for lead in their blood.

And the Clark family had been directly impacted. Read more
