Race cast big shadow over last week’s elections

by Mikel Kwaku Osei Holt
Some people view politics solely through partisan political lens.

The glasses of many others are tinted by an economic hue--the haves versus the have nots, the rich versus the poor, the powerful versus the powerless. More

Our Condolences

Our prayers go out to the family of R&B singer Gerald LeVert, who passed this past weekend. Many called him the "Maestro of Love." All across the nation, many were devastated to hear of his passing, as he was only 40 years old.

Unofficially, the cause of death was heart related.

I listened throughout the week as many who remembered his songs stated he knew how to keep it real and that he sang about loving a woman. However, most recalled the song he and his dad Eddie of the O’Jays did "Wind Beneath My Wings" in a duet where he shared with his father how much he loved him and sang to him that everything he is was because of him.

LeVert was well respected in the music industry and had bases in Detroit, Atlanta and his hometown Cleveland. He left us a lifetime of love to cherish in his song, Rest in Peace Gerald.

Our prayers also go out to the award-winning television journalist Ed Bradley of the CBS program "60 Minutes." Bradley an excellent journalist experienced life to its fullest.

He became the first Black man to work for "CBS Network News" clearing a path for equal opportunity. Not that they could deny him, he was good. An excellent interviewer, as a correspondent, he traveled the world and obtained an abounds of knowledge, which allowed him for 26 years on "60 Minutes" to display the highest level of trust and integrity with viewers as well as his colleagues. Ed, we salute you for a job well done, Atten-tion Salute! More
