photos by Harry Kemp

Darryl Dixon: "Yes, because I’m shopping economically and the stores basically are having items on sale for all to afford."

Carmen Mitchell: "I am finding everything very well. The sale prices are very good and so far I have found great gifts."

Marie McDonald: "Yes, I’m finding all the gifts I need for the holiday because all the stores are having great sales and everything is in stock."

John Thorpe: "I think a lot of people are so impatient to get gifts, but they aren’t taking their time to bargain shop. I look for the best for the less."

Despite hanging up stethoscope, doctor not yet ready for retirement

Dr. Laurencin gives his longtime patient, Mary Hunter, one last check up before he retires from Midtown Health Clinic. Hunter is just one of many patients who said they are sorry to see him go, but are happy that he’s able to retire while he’s still active and in good health.

When Dr. Denis Laurencin hangs up his stethoscope and walks out of the Midtown Health Center headed for retirement on December 31, don’t be fooled.

He’s leaving the city, and he’s even leaving the United States for a while, but his work is not done. He’ll be helping to put systems and procedures in place for a hospital that’s being built in St. Lucia Island, in the Caribbean, and, once it’s up and running, volunteering his time in the hospital.
