Can you typecast a Democrat?

by Mikel Kwaku Osei Holt
It may be a matter of debate to some, but I consider myself a fairly intelligent person.

I wouldn’t debate physics with Albert Einstein, question the tenets of Catholicism with the Pope, or sensitivity with Oprah Winfrey. But, I think I can hold my own when it comes to Black History, women and politics.

My credentials speak for themselves as it relates to those subjects: I’ve lived and written extensively about Black History, I’ve dated, married and studied Black women since childhood, and know enough about partisan politics to justify my unwavering belief that Black people need to form our own independent political party. Holla!

One thousand (1,000) down 255,000 to go, I-Witness touching Black people all over the city one event at a time.

Well many of you have expressed your opinions and want I-Witness to reinstate my travel count down again. I heard you and I like your reasons. Every day someone new comes to Milwaukee and there are still so many good stories to tell, then there are those who do the count down with me. So as of today I will restart the count our second time around telling the good stories about Black life, how we cry, how we love and how we partee!

"Until the Lion writes his own story, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter."--African proverb

Holla-Outs

To: No. 20 Derrick Waller starting quarterback and safety with the St. Bernadette Tigers. Hey, Derrick I hear you can really throw some stuff and that you sometimes think you’re Brett Favre and better, Holla! Well I-Witness asks that you think that you are also Dr. Benjamin Carson. I-Witness wants you to study science and math so you will have the skills to do many other things. Find out who Dr. Benjamin Carson is.

Who knows I just might see you throw a few. Keep advancing that next generation I love it!

To: Sam Mickens, president of the Eurhythmic Social Club, It was good to see you again.

Okay Rosetta I did not mean to forget you when I hollered out at the girls at Brown’s Ham House, Holla!

Birthday Holla-outs

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you to 5 year-old Temera Kimbrough, over at Hopkins Street Elementary School, Happy Birthday to you. Hey, Temera great things are expected of you and your classmates. I-Witness is simply asking that you work hard in school, stay positive even when faced with challenges and do your best. Look up all the words you do not understand and learn them. Keep advancing that next generation, I love it!

Welcome

Welcome Home Carl Gee! I-Witness just wanted to Holla-Out at you; you have been truly missed by many in our community. I know that through your transition many good things are yet to come.

In the eyes of true revolutionaries, we understand a man does not dedicate 37 years of his life fighting, providing education and opportunities for the less fortunate and then he quits doing that.

Yes, they hung you from a tree--figuratively speaking of course--and tried to "lynch" you to make an example of you for the world to see. They tried to send a message, that they will not tolerate us being smart. They will not allow us to do business as others do nor will they ever again, if they can help it allow one of us to be skillful enough to obtain and bring in over $500 million. Then spread it all throughout our community like an octopus stabilizing businesses and other organizations that were trying to make our community whole as all others.

Yes, they stole moments of your life but they can never take away all the good things you did in and for this community. Just remember your Creator is Awesome when he shows up he shows out! Welcome back...

Congratulations

Go Janice Cornell on your new job at Travis Vocation High School, you go gurl congratulations! More

Kaleidoscope wants to know: "What would you like to see in Milwaukee that you've seen in other cities?

Photos by Harry Kemp

Sheryl Pitter: "I'd like to see Black people show an interest non-African American culture."

Deondra Carothers: "I would lke to see morefunctions for young African American professionals."

Michelle Johnson: "I would like to see African American culture visible in Milwaukee. As well as Black American history visible in our arts, community and educational system. I'd like to see our kids really prideful about being Black Americans."

Bethany Criss: "I'd like to see more youth movements. I lived in Chicago for four years and was active in large city-wide Hip Hop Movements. I want to see more of the same thing here as well. It's here on a small scale, but the youth need more motivation."

Minister to lead Milwaukee delegation back to Katrina ravaged New Orleans

by Thomas E. Mitchell, Jr.
In 2005, days after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Rev. Nate Stampley led a group of Milwaukeeans to the battered city to render assistance and bring much needed supplies to the survivors of the storm.

On October 29 of this year, Stampley will again travel to New Orleans with 12 to 15 Milwaukee volunteers. This time, they will not only deliver supplies, but help in the cleanup effort that is still ongoing one year after the storm. More
