A job at Goodwill is more than a paycheck...it’s life!
"Just because you start at the bottom, it does not mean it will take you longer to get to the top."--Iyanla Vanzant

Brewer helps in fight against cancer

Milwaukee Brewer star Outfielder Bill Hall (center) recently donated $25,000 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. For his efforts, Hall and his mother Vergie have been named honorary co-chairs for the annual Race for the Cure in Milwaukee, slated for September 23. The donation was part of the "Pink Bat" initiative, which includes a "Pink Bat" ticket package that includes a pink bat autographed by Hall, along with two tickets to the newest destination at Miller Park, The Club on the Club for the Sunday, June 3 game against the Florida Marlins. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Komen Foundation. Pictured with Hall are (left to right) Ellen Melvin, wife of Brewer General Manager Doug Melvin (second from left), Julie Kaiserling, chair of the Race for the Cure; and Brewer vice president Rick Schlesinger. Pulse of the Community
Question of the Week: "Who are some of your community heroes and why?"
Photos and question by Harry Kemp

Reverend Marvin G. Spence: " Not wanting to slight anyone because I consider a number of individuals to be community heroes because of the work they do. My heroes’ list includes Tyrone Dumas, Eric Vonn and various colleagues in the ministry."
|

Myron G. Smith: My pastor, Reverend Marvin G. Spence. He cares about his family, as well as his community. I think Pastor Spence lives what he teaches and he’s an honest man with the love of Jesus in his heart. I thank God for him."
|

JoAnn Hackney: "My pastor, Elder Vernon C. Crawley who has promoted the "Adopt-A-Block" program in a nine block area around our church to get the church out of our seats and into the central city neighborhood."
|

Michelle Logan: "(Former Milwaukee Mayor) Marvin Pratt. He was concerned about a possible school closure. My oldest son was facing a sexual allegation. I contacted Mr. Pratt and he responded in a very caring and compassionate spirit. The school overturned their decision."
