A gift of hope

Surrounded by the very kids he hopes to help, real estate developer and philanthropist Joseph J. Zilber presented a check for $1 million recently to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. His gift will help the organization enhance programs and extend the hours at its Lloyd Street School Boys & Girls Club, which will be renamed the Joseph J. Zilber Club in his honor. The presentation was made during dedication ceremonies for the Joseph J. Zilber Boys & Girls Club at Lloyd Street School, located at 1228 West Lloyd Street. In addition, the naming ceremony is part of the nonprofit’s strategic plan, Decade of Hope, which is aimed at helping the city’s most at-risk children and teens gain the skills needed to achieve positive futures. FEMA contacting 27,000 Wisconsin disaster applicants about court order to release personal information

Washington--The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is in the process of making telephone calls and sending letters to 27,667 Wisconsin applicants for disaster assistance. The calls and letters are to inform them that a recent court order has directed the agency to send the addresses of their disaster-damaged homes to certain newspapers in Florida that sued FEMA to get the information. Detroit Mayor Kwame R. Kilpatrick to keynote African American Chamber of Commerce dinner September 23

Detroit Mayor Kwame R. Kilpatrick will be the keynote speaker at the African American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) of Greater Milwaukee's first annual dinner. The event will be held Sept. 23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., downtown.
The dinner is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The reception will start at 2 p.m. Read more

Maxine May: "Legislation should not be necessary as a replacement of parental responsibility. These children leave somebody’s house looking as they do. When children are out of order, either some parent is doing something they shouldn’t or isn’t doing something they should."

Jocelyn Gibert: "If there is a dress code for excessively low jeans, it must be fair and place this expectation on both sexes. With that, I’d have to say no. There are horrible things happening in this country and abroad, a lot more important than how an individual wears their pants."

No charges against New Orleans nursing home in Katrina deaths
