American Family Insurance expects to pay customers $8.3 million from southern Wisconsin tornadoes and storms

Company says payments in Eagle alone could reach $5.7 million

American Family Insurance said today it expects to pay out $8.3 million to customers in southern Wisconsin whose homes were damaged by the June 21 tornadoes and strong winds.

Of that amount, the company expects approximately $5.7 million in payments to storm victims in and around the community of Eagle, where a tornado caused major residential damage.

Based in Madison, Wis., American Family Insurance is the largest provider of homeowners and private passenger auto insurance in Wisconsin.

American Family policyholders in southern Wisconsin, spanning from Dane County east to Racine County, have filed more than 1,000 claims from the June 21 storms.

Of that total, American Family customers in Eagle and surrounding area have filed 181 property claims, including claims for five destroyed homes and approximately 50 other homes with damage of $50,000 or more.

“Our focus remains on helping our customers recover and rebuild,” said American Family Claims Vice President Tim Constien.

“In Eagle, our adjusters have inspected all of the damaged homes, except those just recently reported, and are now finalizing payments with the customers.”

American Family‚s catastrophe team remains in Eagle, based at its temporary claim office in Eagle at 136 W. Waukesha Road.

American Family customers who sustained damage from the storms but have not reported their claims should do so immediately by contacting their American Family agent or the company’s 24-hour Claim Customer Care Center at 1-800-MYAMFAM (1-800-692-6326).
