Author Dr. Ian Smith shared touching life lessons from his book, Happy, at the Delta Memorial Endowment Fund’s (DMEF) 35th Annual Literary Luncheon on Saturday, April 23 at the Italian Conference Center, 631 E. Chicago Street. DMEF is the non-profit corporation of the Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Literary Luncheon is DMEF’s signature fundraising event.
In addition to honoring young scholars and writers, one of the event’s goals is to raise money for college scholarships and award them to graduating high school students. Additionally, the literary luncheon strives to increase public interest and knowledge of literary works by African American authors.
For this year’s Literary Write Off, students addressed the topic of preventing childhood obesity. This year’s scholarship winners are seen at left with DST members Nicole Coleman (far left), Chapter President Nuntiata Buck (center), and Jenelle Hawkins (far right).
