Celebrating Black Marriage Day
March 29, 2012 // 0 Comments
Couples young and old descended upon the Hyatt Regency Hotel, downtown to renew their vows of holy matrimony as part of a nation-wide celebration of National Black Marriage Day, which was Sunday, March 25.
The Milwaukee event was sponsored by COMPEL, whose goal is to lead the community in cherishing and celebrating marriage while encouraging more to commit to matrimony for the sake of our community’s children. There was also a “Tom Thumb Wedding, ” in which Jamal Mims, age 16, and Katlin Wright, age 14, played bride and groom before real married couples. The faux wedding ceremony was complete with bridesmaids and groomsmen. A teen also “officiated” the “nuptials.”
