DMV Customer Service Centers closed October 9 (Columbus Day) for staff training

Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Customer Service Centers and phone services throughout the state will be closed for business on Monday, October 9, Columbus Day, so that all front-line customer service representatives can attend training sessions.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s DMV automated phone system will remain available.

The automated phone system allows motorists to make road test appointments and provides the answers to some questions but does not connect the caller to a customer service representative.

DMV will conduct regional training sessions to minimize employee travel, maximize staff training time, and manage costs to the division, according to Gary Guenther, director of the DMV Bureau of Field Services.

"Ongoing staff training is critical to DMV operations and customer satisfaction," Guenther said. "It improves the consistency, productivity and proficiency of overall services to customers."

DMV customer service staff will receive technical process and procedural updates, refresher training on system processing, financial accountability, organ donation, fraud detection and prevention, customer communications and cultural diversity.

Guenther indicated that October 9 was selected because it is a federal holiday, which typically reduces the number of customers visiting service centers.

Questions regarding the closings may be directed to DMV Regional Managers or Director Gary Guenther at (608) 266-9831.
