The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will sponsor a screening and town hall meeting on the documentary, “Beyond the Bricks.” It will be held November 13 in UWM’s Lubar Hall, 3202 N. Maryland Ave., starting at 10 a.m.
Beyond the Bricks is a documentary and national community engagement project created with the goal of promoting local and national solutions to one of Americans critical problems: The consistently low performance of Black males and their education.
The documentary includes Newark, New Jersey’s Mayor Cory Booker, Rev. Al Sharpton, Schott Foundation President Dr. John Jackson, Dr. Pedro Noguera, and Dr. Ivory Toldson, among others.
The town hall meeting will discuss and plan what we all can do to create healthy communities for our youth to support them receiving a quality education. Community leaders, educators, parents, students and all community members are strongly encouraged to attend. There will be a screening of Beyond the Bricks, followed by the panel discussion.
