ESPN’s Robert Parker Apologizes to Robert Griffin III

When ESPN host and contributor Rob Parker implied last Thursday that Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III might be a “cornball brother” the blogosphere went into an uproar.

A day later Parker was suspended and became the target of criticism from sports and news commentators all over the net. The Grio’s opinion columnist Todd Johnson disapproved of Parker’s remarks. “His comments weren’t painful because of the subject matter — race should be discussed and mentioned as it relates to sports when appropriate,” stated Johnson. “The comments were painful because they were delivered irresponsibly.”

Nearly a week after his comments, Parker apologized via his Twitter account on Wednesday.”The failure was in how I chose to discuss it on First Take, and in doing so, turned a productive conversation into a negative one,” Parker wrote. View Parker’s entire apology here.

Griffin has yet to react to the controversial comments or the recent apology made by the ESPN host. According to The Grio, Parker contacted Griffin’s agent to apologize directly to the all-star.
