Film Noir Review

"In the Mix" is one mixed up movie!

by Judy Marker, Movie Critic
The headline says it all. "In The Mix" is easily one of the worst movies of the year and rivals last year’s "The Cookout" for my bottom of the bottom film list.
I should have known when the studio announced there would be no advance screening, but I still wanted to let you know if "In the Mix" was as "bad" as the studio thought. After all, it stars entertainer Usher and did cost millions to make.
Very quickly, Usher is Darrell, the hottest DJ around. When representatives of the south side mob ask him to lend his skills to a welcome home party for boss Frank’s (Chazz Palminteri "A Night at the Roxbury") daughter Dolly (Emmanuelle Chriqui "Wrong Turn"), it is hardly an invitation he can refuse.
Darrell’s late parents both worked for Frank and his family and he has long been considered a lifelong friend.
At the party, an assassination plot goes awry when Darrell takes a bullet meant for Frank.
From that moment he is taken into the family and made Dolly’s bodyguard.
This is a movie that fails to decide exactly what it is, a story of a mob war with romance on the side or a highly impossible love story with a mob war background. After the first 10 minutes, you will be ready to move on.
"In The Mix" offers nothing of redeeming value, including the music, which like the acting and story fail to attract interest. This is one movie where there are no credits only embarrassments.
Originally titled "Dying for Dolly" this 95-minute disaster is rated "PG-13" for sexual content, violence and language. It is your money to spend, but "In The Mix" receives my worst rating "0-J’s/Ask for refund!"
