For the Sake of Aaron: Celebrating Our Black Men

"Men for All Seasons" by Charles Bibbs

Larry Waters

Forty-one outstanding Black men have been the subjects of the "Milwaukee Community Journal’s Best of the Best" honorees as the newspaper celebrates its 31st anniversary.

Each profile spotlights the magnanimous contributions the men are making in their families, their neighborhoods and their community.

Reflecting upon the people in their lives who inspired them and were positive role models has been a substantive part of each honoree’s interview exchange.

Community reaction to the men who will be honored at the anniversary celebration--Sunday, August 12 with a 4 p.m. reception followed by dinner at 5 p.m.--has been tremendous. There is still time to cast your vote for your favorite: Click here to vote for "The Man of the Year"

Larry Waters, senior director of Multicultural Relations at Miller Brewing Company, has chaired what will be an evening to remember.

"I am truly grateful for the opportunity to chair this year’s MCJ annual awards dinner. It has been not only exciting, but also insightful to celebrate strong African American males ‘For the Sake of Aaron.’

"It is comforting to know that when the Greater Milwaukee community works together, the whole community wins," Waters said.

DeMarco Morgan, weekend anchor at WISN-TV who will be departing in August, has acted as co-chair and helped to design a memorable program. This will probably be his last public event in Milwaukee.

Twelve college students will again be awarded $2,000 under the Dr. TNT Memorial Scholarship; and young boys in the mentoring project, headed by Dr. William Rogers, will perform and receive proceed scholarships.
