A young Milwaukee woman is creating a new life for her and her family, thanks to what she learned at a program at the Social Development Commission (SDC).
Sylvia Irby heard about the WISE (or W-2 Integration Into State Employment) Program from her W-2 case worker. The 25 year old had gone to the W-2 program after she recently had a baby. Sylvia said she was struggling to find employment and was happy to enroll in WISE at SDC this past July.
As a WISE Program participant, she updated her customer service skills through training, learned computer software, attended interviewing, career planning and resume writing workshops, and attained financial literacy knowledge. She notes that she was also coached on how to get and how to keep a job.
She recently stopped by the WISE Program at SDC to give staff and fellow classmates the news that she used those skills and knowledge to land a position as a personal banking representative with Tri-City National Bank. She credits the program with providing the skills and opportunity for her to earn that job. She stressed that it will be up to her now to keep it so she can successfully build a new life for herself and her young family.
For more information on the WISE Program, call the W-2 Program at SDC at 414-326-2900 or visit the SDC website at www.cr-sdc.org.
