Good luck all, I hope I win, Holla!

It was billed as the last game for the North Division and Lincoln High School basketball rivalry. The kick off was held at Garfield 502 where the Lincoln Comets and the North Blue Devils united coming from all across the country to say good-bye to 35 years of pure fun.

North Division and Lincoln High Schools were the high schools that all Black people attended in the city of Milwaukee dating back to the 1930s when the Black community was a small and close-knit population and White people in this city did not want little Black children going to school with their little White children.

As our population grew so did North Division and Lincoln High School. Students of these two schools became very active in sports and other extra curriculum activities. In addition, in the late 1950s is where both high schools began to compete openly with the other public high schools in sports; a new day was dawning.

The reputation of North Division and Lincoln basketball programs had become well known by the other schools and not only did they begin to go up state to play in tournaments against other schools around the state, other athletics in track, Decathlon and other sports began to take state titles and championships as well. Along with this came a rivalry between the two schools on who had the best basketball team. Now they did not act like the thugs and shoot up and cut people they did their challenges on the court. Moreover, they had a sense of community.

It became the vision of Michael Cummings who was the athletic director at North Division at the time who initiated the creation of the North Lincoln Alumni Games in 1972. Lincoln High was closed so all focus went to the students at North Division.

After the first reunion game of former players, cheerleaders who had graduated over twenty-to-forty years ago the quality of the competition was phenomenal and it produced standing room only. And a North Lincoln Alumni Committee was formed and for 35 years, the North Lincoln Alumni has hosted the annual game that draws alumnus from all over the country bringing thousands of dollars into the city of Milwaukee. Thus allowing the committee to date to grant over $100,000 in scholarship money to students at North Division as well as other schools and programs through out the city.

In 2005, North Division as we knew it exist no longer. A Farwell to the school was held in conjunction with the last graduating class at North Division. North Division as well as Lincoln High School produced many successful and educated citizens. From world leaders, to politicians, business owners, teachers, you name it they came from one of the two schools. While the name North Division will remain the school has become three schools in one now.

Bringing us back to Garfield 502, Larry K. Miles is rocking the house doing some things to make our bodies move, Holla! Now he is taking us back to the day, "Play that funky music White boy, person to person" It’s a party y’all.

Chairman Lee Holloway, Max Walker, Ronald Stinson, Iberia Green Lewis, Leronza Allen, Al Jackson, Linda Bishop, Ed (Bubbles) Miller, Freida Webb, all attended Lincoln.

Vel Phillips, Marvin Pratt, Tommy Hegwood, Wilbert St. Julien, Libby Stamper, Willie Sims, James (Smitty) Smith, attended North Division.

It was a very emotional and spiritual time for many of the alumnus as well as many of their teachers. Like James Rice who was assistant principal at Lincoln and Giesela Benning, athletic director at North. Out of Towners: Juanita Blevens-Lincoln, Birmingham, and Doris Wilford-Lincoln. Atlanta, Georgia, and former MCJ photographer Walter Bishop of Alabama.

Okay y’all they have folks here with their own flash light as Larry K. Miles plays, Flash light, Flash light, Neon light, Red light, stop light, its wild ya'll.
