Poetry Unplugged at the Onyx

Pictured (l to r) are local poets Autumn Blaze and Sista Monica as they recently ripped the mic at Poetry Unplugged, held at the Onyx Nightclub.
The two, along with many other poets and connoisseurs of poetry, regularly visit the Onyx Tuesday nights for the Nightclub’s open mic set. (photo by Barbara White)

Kaleidoscope wants to know...

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

photos by Harry Kemp

Consuela Kirkendoll: "In the next five years, I plan to be married with a family and possibly owning my own old folks home or group home. I’ve worked in the health field for nine years, coming from a factory job and wanting to do more for our people--especially the ones who are being abused or neglected."

Johnnie Hardwick: "In the next five years, I hopefully see myself more settled as for my living situation, career wise and the relationship with my kids; giving them the attention they need. A lot of stress I have these days, I believe is self-caused, but hopefully in a few years I hope to be a little more stress free."

Delshae Vance: "Hopefully own my own business. I want to start up a soul food restaurant in Madison to give my people somewhere to receive an income. I also hope to start an Urban League for my brothers and sisters to keep them off the streets and teach them there is a better (life) than drugs and violence."

Jameelah Shareef-Alebar: "Five years from now, God willing, I plan to be the successful executive director of an after-school program, called the Centers for Accelerated Learning and Creativity. This program’s mission will be geared toward youths, ages 5-17 in efforts to improve their learning academically and creatively."
