Kaleidoscope wants to know...

photos by Harry Kemp

LaMonte C. Harris: "You can do all things with God on your side."

Tammy Thompson: "The advice I would give to college students is to hang in there. Sometimes it may get hard, but you will get your reward at the end. Education plays a big part in your future. It may seem dark but there is a light at the end of the tunnel."

Althea Townsend: "The advice I would give (to) a college graduate is to take everything they (have) learned and apply it in every aspect of their business life."

Xaiver Shands: "The advice I would give (to) a college graduate is pursue entrepreneurship, becasue the job world’s compensation doesn’t add up to the rewards of entrepreneurship or business development."

Anti-Loitering Law

With Police Chief Nannette Hegerty announcing Tuesday that officers involved in stepped-up patrols in certain city neighborhooods this summer will be talking to "suspicious people" who draw attention to themselves, Ald. Tony Zielinski said he plans to re-introduce his anti-gang loitering ordinance.
Ald. Zielinski, chief sponsor of the ordinance, said it gives police the ablitiy to be proactive while keeping city streets safe this summer.
The anit-gang loitering ordinance -- drafted after the mob beating of Samuel McClain in December 2005 -- was narroly defeated in early 2006 when Common Council members rejected it by an 8-7 vote.

Reward for info

A Milwaukee business group is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot and killed 4-year-old Jasmine Owens on Monday night, Ald. Mike McGee, Jr. said.
The Small Business Association of Wisconsin - comprised of 6th Aldermanic District business owners - has stepped forward to help bring Jasmine’s killer to justice, said Ald. McGee.
"Whoever did this must turn themselves in," the alderman said. "Also, the 26-year-old intended target of the drive-by needs to be a man and take responsibility for what happened, and that means helping track down the killer."
Anyone with possible info on the suspects and/or vehicle should call Ald. McGee at 414-286-2994.

County Parks System

In conjunction with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, neighborhood and park associations, the Parks Department and the MilwaukeeCounty Board of Supervisors, our county parks will have a stronger law enforcement presence this summer. The warm weather brings one of our county’s greatest assests, our park system, to life and efforts are underway to ensure that park-usersare both safe, and follow county ordinances. One ordinance in particular taht will be enforced with a heavy fine is: no fireworks are to be set off within the city limits, including our county parks.
Dogs are alos prohibited on county parks, even if they are on leashes. Violating the ordinance could result in a fine of $155.
