Oprah tapped Shonda Rhimes (creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) and Kerry Washington for an interview about their new hit show Scandal, for this week’s Next Chapter.
Washington will chat about the historical importance of her lead role on the show. There hasn’t been a Black female lead role on prime time TV in almost four decades, according to The YFB. Diahann Carroll was the previous woman to do it as the star of the 1960′s TV show Julia.
Oprah will also chat with Judy Smith, the woman who Olivia Pope is based on. They will talk about some of her controversial clients, which include Wesley Snipes, Monica Lewinski and Michael Vick.
Oprah’s Next Chapter with Kerry Washington and Shonda Rhimes will air on Sunday, December 9, at 9/8c.
Oprah goes to the set of ABC’s hit television series Scandal in Los Angeles and sits down with actress Kerry Washington and the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes. Plus, Oprah talks to Judy Smith, the real-life inspiration for Kerry’s character, Olivia Pope, about some of her most infamous clients.

I’m excited to see this interview with Kerry Washington and Shonda Rhimes. Washington is one of my favorite actresses and I enjoy watching Scandal. I also like Rhimes and her shows Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. My DISH coworker first told me about this interview, so I’ll definitely be tuning in. I’ll be recording it on my DISH Hopper. I’ve stored the whole season on this DVR along with some of my other favorite recordings, because it has a 2TB hard drive. I can’t wait to see what Judy Smith has to say about the character that was inspired by her.
