We support the Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP’s effort to educate the community on the redistricting effort now being waged on the city and county levels.
The NAACP is hosting a redistricting map panel discussion Thursday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the organization’s headquarters, located at 2745 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
Among the panelists will be Milwaukee Ald. Ashanti Hamilton, who has presented a redistricting plan that would guarantee our community’s fair share of governmental representation and dollars vital to the uplift of our neighborhoods and families.
We strongly encourage you, our readers, to attend this discussion to hear about the alderman’s plan, other alternative plans being suggested, hear why the issue of redistricting is so important to the Black community, and ask questions about the process and its impact.
The title of the panel discussion is “Redistricting Milwaukee: A Community Approach.” It’s a fitting title because for us to positively benefit from redistricting we must demand and push a community approach and action plan that impacts the economic and political future of our community.
