MCJ Editorial: Saying thanks to those who helped make MCJ’s Second Line gala a success
August 12, 2010 // 0 CommentsSaturday’s Milwaukee Community Journal gala at the Mitchell Park Domes celebrated the “Second Line;” individuals who picked up the baton and carried on the traditions of our elders. Each honoree continues to impact our community and city. They made the event a rousing success.
We again congratulate the 16 individuals honored that night, as well as the Dr. Terence N. Thomas recipients, the Ernestine O’Bee Post-Grad Scholarship recipients and the Janet Green Pegues honorable mention awardees. Judging from what we saw and heard from these amazing young people, our future is in good hands.
We also thank the corporate supporters who stepped to the plate and led the parade with their hard work, sacrifices and expertise.
The beautiful umbrellas that symbolize New Orleans and the famous second line that were carried by the female honorees thrilled everyone. They were made by MCJ staffer Josephine Joki. Her creations were beautiful and colorful. They would have made a New Orleanian proud…and a little envious. Thanks Josephine!
Last, but not least, we thank you, our loyal readers and advertisers who continue to support our mission to provide the information, education and inspiration weekly to the community that we’ve served for 34 years; and will continue to serve as we march proudly into our 35th year.
