Rev. Willie Brisco, Assisting Minister at New Covenant Baptist Church, will be installed as the 9th President of MICAH (Milwaukee Inner-city Congregations Allied for Hope) at the annual Public Meeting.
The meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 18 at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, 2315 N. 38th St. and will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Also included in the meeting will be commitments from public officials to collaborate with MICAH in bringing about policy changes, as well as compelling testimonies from individuals whose lives have been positively impacted by MICAH’s work for social change.
MICAH leaders and public officials will be addressing the four major issues that MICAH Task Forces have been working on through out the year: Jobs and economic development, public school improvement, civil rights of immigrants, and drug treatment alternatives to incarceration.
In addition to other presentations, the MICAH Core Team from Incarnation Lutheran Church, under the leadership of Ms. Doris Owens and Rev. Dennis Jacobsen, will celebrate with MICAH their successful effort, with the help of Supervisor Theodore Lipscomb, to secure over $300,000 of county funding for renovation of the facilities in the Lindberg Park near 15th and Keefe Avenue.
Founded in 1988, MICAH is a congregation-based organization comprised of 32 faith communities representing 10 different faith traditions. MICAH was formed to bring about a greater degree of social justice in housing, health care, immigration, education, jobs and the economy, and the judicial-incarceration system.
The November 18 Public Meeting is open to the public.
