The Community Brainstorming Conference (CBC) announces that the 2011 Recipient of the Annual James Howard Baker Award will be MacArthur (Mac) Weddle, long time president and CEO of the Northcott Neighborhood House. Weddle was chosen by the executive board of CBC because of his commitment and dedication to the uplifting of the African American Community, especially its youth, in conformance with the principles of involvement characterized by the late Jim Baker.
James H. Baker, prior to his untimely death in 1990, was known in the community for his unending research and his advocacy for the inclusion of people of African descent in every aspect of political and economic life in Milwaukee. As one of the founders of the Community Brainstorming Conference, he was known as a one man urban research center. Baker was also known as a solid intellectual yet had that touch that resonated in every segment of the community..
Mac Weddle exhibits many of those same characteristics, and as has served the Milwaukee community in a variety of leadership positions including: president of the Juneteenth Day, Board of African World Festival, Board of Harambee Ombudsman and many other community boards and advisory committees. A native Milwaukeean, Mac is a proud graduate of North Division High School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Currently he is the Vice Chair of the Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation and has served on State Examining Boards, as well as an Instructor at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. Weddle is the proud father of three sons and six grand-children. He is also a distinguished 33rd degree Mason with the Prince Hall Free Accepted Masons, True Square Lodge number 11.
Weddle will be honored at the Annual CBC Dinner to be held at the Radisson Milwaukee North Shore, 7065 N. Port Washington Road, on Friday October 28th at 6:30 PM. Tickets for the dinner are available for the nominal sum of $20.00, with tables of 10 for $200.00. Since seating will be limited it is suggested that dinner reservations be made early by calling Gloria at the African American Chamber of Commerce at 462-9450.
