If " The Time Is Now, " Then Milwaukee Community Must Get Out
And Vote On April 6th

Op-Ed
03-31-04

We’ve said it before (in several editorials and stories these last few months); Black Milwaukee has a chance to make history on April 6 if they get out in masse and vote for Mayor Marvin Pratt.

If Pratt is elected, he will (as we’ve noted before) be the first elected African American mayor in this city’s history.

But the race isn’t about history alone.

It’s also about Black Milwaukee having a seat at the table of opportunity as it relates to contracts and key positions in government that will positively impact on the lives of Black and Hispanic Milwaukeeans and other minorities who for too long had to settle for "table scraps."

Voters in the community must remember that this election is about issues, not allegations of wrongdoing (of which none has been found) or untruths—let alone half-truths.

This election is about crime and safety, education reform, clean streets, job creation, attracting new businesses to the city and encouraging entrepreneurship, unity and cooperation between city and county government.

As we’ve noted for several weeks, Pratt is the man to get the above things done. If Milwaukeeans—regardless of race—believe the same thing, then they must go to the polls and vote, vote, vote!

If the time is now, as Pratt’s slogan suggests, then we must exercise the supreme right, all citizens possess in a democracy…VOTE!
