Organization honors teaching trailblazers during Black History Month

Historic African American Teachers (HAAT) of MPS honored four teaching trailblazers from the past for the month of February–Black History Month. The teachers honored were (left to right): Carrie Banty, Christine Mitchell, Lou T. Spearman and Mamie Foster.
The event, which was held Saturday, Feb. 26 at Serb Hall, was part of a series of luncheons held each month honoring African American teachers who have taught tens of thousands of Black and White students, many of them have become leaders in the community. (Photo by Yvonne Kemp)
