Community program to focus on medical advances allowing cancer survivors to start families

Can I Have a Baby: Medical advances that may help cancer survivors will be offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in the Briggs & Stratton Auditorium at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Each year, more teens and young adults are diagnosed with cancer and become cancer survivors.

This free program, sponsored by the Young Adult Oncology Group at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin and made possible by a community grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation, was developed for young adult cancer survivors during and after treatment, their parents, caregivers and health care providers interested in oncology and survivorship issues.

The presentation by Gloria Halverson, MD, associate professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical College of Wisconsin; principal investigator, Ovarian Tissue Banking Project, will focus on medical advances in fertility preservation and treatment in cancer survivors.

Following the presentation, participants may share their experiences with medical professionals and cancer survivors.
