Question of the Week: "What can be done to keep young Black males from engaging in activities that prevent them from getting a good education?"
Photos and question by Harry Kemp

Jerry Johnson: "Older Black men should become mentors for the young men, showing them family values and teaching them about the history of our generation and the importance of working, education and a strong Black family."

Chandra Wallace: "I think that a lot of young men feel that they do not matter in today’s society. If there are no jobs, their education plays a major role. The only thing they have to look forward to is jail or war. We need to help them realize that they do matter. We all matter."

Catherine Young: "More positive male influences and mentors in the home, as well as church and their immediate environment."

Leon Manning: "I believe more home training and discipline is needed. Some laws also have to be changed to give parents the right to discipline their children to a certain extent so the teachers would have a better chance of teaching and not be afraid of the parents’ reactions." |
