Question of the week: "What can be done to get the Black community more involved in business?"
Photos and question by Harry Kemp
Willie (Magic) Winchester: "Start by attempting to educate the grassroot community about the importance of Black-owned business and how vitally important it is that we control and recycle the money from Black businesses in our community."
Vera Harris: "We should start in the home with parents teaching their children simple business principles, i.e. allowance, banking and chores. What they learn at home should be reinforced in the neighborhood and the community to ensure continuity."
Paul Mackey: "Black businesses should work collectively. For example, African American marketing firms could be working collectively with other African American businesses. The marketing firms would prove their ability to promote and the business will reap the benefits."
Pearl Kendrick-Ross: "Black businesses need to promote their business to the community as profitable, successful organizations with a plan to grow as a business through planning for generations to come. We also need to teach our community business values."
