Question of the Week: "Wal-Mart has instituted a policy of not prosecuting first-time thieves who steal items that cost under $25. What is your opinion of the Wal-Mart policy?"

Photos and question by Harry Kemp

Osker L. Ellis: "I don’t like it because it’s saying that it’s okay to steal."

Lucie Hall: "No, it’s not okay to steal, no matter what it (the item) costs! But (the policy) will help to clear out our courts for more important issues."

William Thornton: "Yes, this is a good idea. Wal-Mart is taking the lead in not prosecuting someone for an item under $25, which will be on record."

Jeannetta Simpson Robinson, CYD founder/CEO: "We salute Wal-Mart for taking this giant step toward helping our people to not get jail records, which will keep them from employment. They should partner with an organization like CYD so we can provide an opportunity to develop their character so they never desire to steal again."
