Question of the Week: "What should parents do now to prepare young people for school?"
Photos and question by Harry Kemp

Cheryl Nathaniel: "Start settling them down to teach them self-discipline, social skills and organizing themselves to be able to interact with other people and their culture. Also, to have respect for their elders and themselves."

Marvel Brantley: "Parents should show their children that they love them first and set attainable goals for them. Also, surround children with positive people. Set rules and guidelines that they both can agree on. Listen to your children. All these things constitute achievement in the Black race."

Michelle R. Brock: "As a parent, I would tell my children to go to school with an open mind so they can come away with knowledge. Also, write everything down!"

Steve Johnson: "I plan to do some review (with the children) in math, reading, comprehension, etc. This will hopefully refocus them. It’s also important to have them go to bed earlier and get up earlier ... 30 minutes to an hour earlier everyday so that it’s gradual."
