Pulse of the Community

Question of the Week: "Wisconsin leads the nation in underage, high school drinking. Each year, about 2,100 state residents die from alcohol or drug related accidents. What can we do about this?"

Tarah Mcvey: "We as a community need to stop being "friends" with our kids. We need to PARENT them. So many (parents) want so much to be their (children’s) friend that many of the rules they should be abiding by are turned a blind eye."

Jeremiah Mcvey: "We need to stop denying that it’s a problem and actually do something about it. Parents need to be more involved in their kids lives and know where they are and with whom. And if they don’t like it, don’t allow them to."

Dr. Kirk E. Harris: "Youth need support, role models, guidance and love. Adults need to concentrate on connecting with young people. The more caring adults in a youth’s life the less likely they are to engage in risky behavior."

Talonda Brown: "I think that teens turn to drinking to fit in. If more kids were involved in meaningful activities such as music, dance, volunteering, they wouldn’t have time to fit in."
