Rep. Fields pushes key legislation through the Assembly

MADISON – State Representative Jason M. Fields (D-Milwaukee) today announced the successful passage of three bills, two bills he authored and one he co-authored, in the Wisconsin State Assembly that address key issues in youth safety, education, and business development.

The first bill, the Sidelined for Safety Act, passed with bipartisan support on the floor this evening.

This important legislation endorsed by the NFL will increase awareness of the concussion risks for young athletes by requiring youth athletes suspected of suffering this type of injury to be removed from play until cleared by a health care provider.

The second Fields bill that passed today attempted to tighten requirements for the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program.

“Improving quality needs to be the focus of our efforts to reform education in the state of Wisconsin,” stated Rep. Fields.

“This bill will do just that by increasing the standards we set for the institutions charged with the important responsibility of educating our children.”

By signing on as co-author, Rep. Fields also helped advocate for Senate Bill 2. This jobs-focused legislation increases the amount of capitol made available to small

businesses under WHEDA’s small business development loan guarantee program.
