Young Scholars Came, Conquered and Soared
Madison – State Representative Leon D. Young had the distinct pleasure of welcoming third, fourth and fifth graders from Frances Starms Discovery Learning Center on Friday. “This was definitely the largest and one of the best behaved school groups to visit with me at the Capitol,” Young commented.
In total, there were 135 inquisitive, young minds that made the trip who, in turn, were accompanied by 22 equally-engaged adults (teachers and teacher assistants and parents). The Discovery Learning Center is located at 2035 N. 25th Street in Milwaukee, and encompasses grades 1 through 8th . Frances Starms has a unique approach and serves its students through an upgraded program that groups children with different abilities into multi-age family units, who are then taught by teacher teams.
During a spirited question and answer session in the Assembly Chambers, the students showed their academic mettle. “I was really very impressed with their knowledge of state government,” Young asserted, “It’s apparent that good things are happening at Frances Starms academically, which is a credit to its teachers, students and parents.”
