African American Day of Action to support responsible sex education

One of the greatest risks to teens in Milwaukee is teen pregnancy. African American teens in our city have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation and teen pregnancy is the fastest route to poverty. We have heard this message before but on July 29, we intend to do something about it.

Join other supporters for a "Day of Action" on Saturday, July 29, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Urban Underground, 4850 West Fond du Lac Avenue During the "Day of Action" you will learn to organize and mobilize, and then immediately take to the streets to demand that our city acknowledge teen pregnancy as a community crisis.

Participants will receive training and information, attend a visibility event, canvas door-to-door, do phone banking and gather petitions. A "Day of Action" T-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and snacks will also be provided at no cost.

The following companies are sponsoring this event, working in partnership to increase our chances for a healthier community: Black Health Coalition, Cream City Medical Society, Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, Lena’s Food Stores, Milwaukee Health Services, Inc., New Concept Self Development Center, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Representative Tamara D. Grigsby, Senator Lena C. Taylor, Social Development Commission, Urban Underground, and YWCA of Greater Milwaukee.

Join in the movement to support a better community for our children and a better community for all of us. For more information about the "Day of Action" or to volunteer, call 414-289-3752 or log on to ppwi.org.
