Sisters from Cameroon seek help for school
Geraldine Ngouegni Ade (left) and Che Linda Neh, sisters from the African nation of Cameroon and students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, met with community leaders, clergy, educators and political figures to help raise money for the Cameroon Fund for the development in that country of the St. Joseph Educational Development Center, which is part of the St. Joseph’s Girls Vocational High School in Bafut, Cameroon. The 300 students at St. Joseph’s are among the most poverty-stricken anywhere. For many, the school is the only stabilizing factor in their lives. They learn math, reading, writing, history, science and religion. They also learn life skills such as sewing, cooking and hygiene. The new development center will help the students obtain jobs that improve their lives economically and socially. Both Geraldine and Che Linda are studying to be teachers and will most likely go back to Cameroon to teach other young women. (photo by Harry Kemp)
