Community’s best recognized for their achievements, MCJ celebrates 35 years

by MCJ Staff

Over the course of 35 years, many things have changed, but one thing has remained constant: the Milwaukee Community Journal has been at the pulse of the community.

through the years MCJ has maintained a balanced and responsible relationship with the community. You’ve talked and we’ve listened. And this year you spoke in volumes, casting more than 100,000 votes for the Academy of Legends Awards.

In January we asked you to submit your legends – people who have greatly impacted and influenced our community with their civic, cultural or political contributions. Mothers, brothers, businessmen and women; pastors, educators, mentors, doctors, lawyers and innumerable volunteers, who serve children, adults, and recovering addicts, were nominated for their support in the lives of thousands of our readers.

Nominees came pouring in and votes quickly followed. The top four (4) contenders were determined and from these four, the top vote-getter will be named to the Academy of Legends on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Italian Community Center during the Milwaukee Community Journal’s 35th Anniversary Gala.

This stellar evening of reflection, inspiration, and acknowledging achievement is the perfect setting for looking back but also moving forward. Proceeds from the Gala support our youth in the form of scholarships that enable talented young adults to reach their dreams.

As we build new legacies, more than $47,000 will be given in academic awards that evening to college students and organizations that support students. Like the legends that will be honored on Saturday night, these fifteen college scholars are phenomenal successes. They shine brightly, illuminating the path that has been laid before them. Soon, the baton will be passed to them for they are legends in the making … that is the trajectory.

The Dr. Terence N. Thomas Scholarship students are buoyed by the generosity of the Honorees, our sponsors and community-thought leaders who support this Gala each year.

This September, the Milwaukee Community Journal will officially celebrate its 35th year. As we did in the beginning, we pledge to always earn your trust and respect. For the loyalty of our readers, support of our tenured advertisers and commitment of the MCJ staff is what enables us to remain at the pulse of the community – hearing, feeling and flowing with the beat of the community.

At this time it seems like Movable Type is the preferred blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
