Still Waters


Thursdays will be like no other.... all over again. Still Waters Open Mic Poetry, the city’s longest-running urban open mic held at Mecca Nightclub, moved to Sunday nights two years ago and now will return to Thursdays with a whole new and exciting line-up.

The night now starts off at 7:30 p.m. with the Still Waters Soul Lounge, featuring drink specials and a live mix of R&B, Neo-Soul, and hip-hop by V100’s Nalege. From 8:30-10:30 p.m. is the acclaimed open mic set and show.

The Piano Lesson

Kicking off their new production season and in honor of one of America’s greatest playwrights, The Hansberry-Sands Theatre Company presents August Wilson’s "The Piano Lesson."

The Pulitzer Prize Award winning drama portrays a brother and sister’s conflict over what to do with a family piano. The sibling rivarly, history versus present and future, storytelling and gender relationships cross unique and universal boundaries.

The production will run for two weeks at Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, Vogel Hall, 123 East State Street.

Ride on the Wild Side

Take advantage of a once-a-year chance to ride your bike in the Milwaukee County Zoo when you sign up for the Zoological Society’s September 17 Ride on the Wild Side, sponsored by Sargento and Pick ’n Save. This annual bike ride to raise money for animals will take you past the giraffes, polar bears and beyond.

Riders can choose from three routes: the 2.5-mile children’s ride, the 17-mile ride or the 27-mile ride. After the ride, participants return to the zoo for lunch at the Zoo Terrace.
