Vel Phillips upset her name, image being used without permission by recall leader

Vel Phillips

Vel Phillips, Milwaukee’s first African American and woman alderman and a political icon, is outraged that the leader of a petition drive to recall Michael McGee, Jr. from his aldermanic seat is using Phillips’ likeness in her campaign material.

Through an attorney, Phillips has asked Una Van Duval to immediately remove Phillip’s name and image from all campaign literature and from Van Duval’s Web site.

The attorney said Phillips did not give Van Duval permission to use her name or image. Phillips is also not endorsing Van Duval or any other candidate running against the embattled sixth district alderman.
