WISN’s Jason Newton now anchors weekend evening news

WISN 12′s Weekend Morning News Anchor Jason Newton assumed the anchoring duties for the weekend news at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. after Mike Miller retired on Saturday, May 29. Shelby Croft co-anchors with Newton on Sunday evenings.
Newton has been a co-anchor of “12 News This Morning” on weekends since September 2007. In addition to anchoring the weekend late news, Newton will continue reporting throughout the week. His morning replacement will be announced early next week.
Newton came to WISN 12 from WBOC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Salisbury, Md., where he was an anchor for the 6, 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts. In 2006, he earned an Associated Press award for “outstanding in-depth reporting.”
Newton previously worked as a writer and assignment editor at WJZ-TV in Baltimore, and served as a news writer and editor while interning with the Hearst-Argyle Washington Bureau. Newton has a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Maryland-College Park.
Mike Miller announced his plans to retire in early May after serving more than 32 years as a local news anchor/reporter at three Milwaukee TV news operations, ending his career at WISN 12.
Hearst Television owns WISN 12, the ABC station in Milwaukee. Hearst owns 29 television stations and two radio stations in geographically diverse U.S. markets. The Company’s television stations reach approximately 18 percent of U.S. TV households, making it one of America’s largest television station groups.
